April 26th is the GNN Annual Event 2018

Calling all Good Neighbours in or around Basingstoke

St Michaels Hospice near Basingstoke runs a Day Service for groups of patients and their Carers.

They like to arrange local speakers to come in to the Unit and give short talks.

They know that there are Good Neighbours Network groups in the area and would be keen to invite representatives from any in their locality to come in and talk about how the group works – what tasks are offered, a ‘Day in the Life of a Volunteer’ or any other points of interest.

If your group is in or near Basingstoke and you would like to respond to their request, please contact us at info@goodneighbours.org and we will put you in touch with the Hospice.  It would be much better coming from a live group rather than any of us here in the Hub.

Waterlooville initiative

Waterlooville Health Centre run a number of clinics and services in addition to the doctors surgery.  Examples include physiotherapy, podiatry, heart health, blood tests, midwives, Health Visitors.

Unfortunately the Reception desk for the doctors does not have access to information and appointments for these other clinics, and patients are often left unsure of where they should report to or which room their clinic is taking place in so the Health Centre would like to set up a separate desk manned by someone who would have the relevant information to help and reassure these patients. Ideally, this could be done on a voluntary basis, with a rota of people able to contribute some time.

Similar schemes have been set up elsewhere which are working well and contributing to a real sense of making the local health centre feel like a friendly place to be part of, as well as helping people find other sources of support that they may not otherwise have known about.

The Good Neighbours Network is keen to support this initiative if we can.  There may be volunteers who could take on this role.  Or we may be able to help find and support new volunteers who would like to be part of this new project.  Out of pocket expenses would be offered as well as full training and the Insurance cover that applies to all our groups.

If you are interested in finding our more or would like to talk to groups who are already doing something similar, please contact the Good Neighbours Hub on info@goodneighbours.org.uk
